Even without a formal heat advisory or warning in effect, the heat index has ranged between 104° and a 108°. Afternoon temperatures climb near 100° both Friday and Saturday and the humidity will make it feel even hotter, so take frequent breaks, stay hydrated and avoid spending too much time outside during the peak heating hours.

Tracking a front this weekend:

High pressure that has brought the hot, humid and dry weather moves west Saturday. This will allow and opening for a front to move into southeast Texas. Because of the heat and humidity any storm that forms along the front has the potential to be strong. Not everyone will get rain or thunderstorms, it will move through as a broken line of storms. Timing is late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.

Sunday’s forecast:

The front stalls near The Woodlands. That means two things. First, any city north of The Woodlands will get several hours of dry air. I don’t expect a big cool down but getting dry air this time of year is huge bonus. Second, south of The Woodlands will not get dry air. In fact, this area may get more rain and storms Sunday morning and afternoon. The only cool down will come from short lived rain cooled air. By Sunday night a southerly wind will bring back the humidity for all of us.

Tracking the tropics:

We’ll get long break from our next storm. There is nothing brewing in the tropics for the next seven to ten days in the Atlantic basin.
