HOUSTON – June 19, 2026, marks 161 years since freedom was announced for African Americans enslaved in Texas in 1865.
Since then June 19 was observed as a federal holiday known as Juneteenth and is often spent celebrating freedom and the historical significance of the date.

Closed or Adjusted Hours
Government Offices
- All federal and city offices will be closed for the holiday.
Houston Public Library
- All Houston Public Library locations will be closed and will resume their regular hours on Monday, June 22. Click here for more information.

- Services operating on a normal weekday schedule:

- HOV/HOT Lanes
- Services with adjusted schedules:
- METROLift reservations and customer service will be closed, but Friday subscription trips will not be affected.
- METRO RideStore locations and METRO Lost & Found will be closed.
- The METRO Customer Service Call Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
