CYPRESS, Texas – The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office says two people were transported to hospitals after a shooting stemming from a domestic dispute inside a Kroger store in Cypress.
The agency says the store is located in the 20300 block of Cypresswood Drive.
Cpt. Juan Flores says they responded around 2:50 p.m. after getting multiple calls of gunshots being fired inside the store.
Authorities arrived within minutes. Flores said they found one man walking out of the store with a gunshot wound. When deputies went inside, they found another man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both individuals were transported to hospitals in critical condition. Flores says they believe the two individuals were the only ones involved and nobody else appears to have been injured.
“It doesn’t appear we have an outstanding individual, we believe we have all parties involved,” Flores said.
Detectives are currently headed to the scene to investigate further and look through video surveillance.
Witnesses describe moment shots fired
Chace Zawacki had just walked into the store moments before the shooting began.
“There was this male in yellow about 50 yards ahead of me and he goes in this door and I’m about at the doors where I hear a loud boom and a couple seconds go by and I hear almost a couple more booms,” he said.
Patrick Young was already inside shopping when the shots were fired.
“Pop pop pop and I just turned around and ran the opposite direction of the gunfire and out through the front door along with multiple other people. There were old ladies trying to scramble. There were terrified kids,” Young said.
The suspected shooter, who had a gunshot wound to the neck, was taken to a nearby hospital by first responders.
Zawacki described watching one of the men being brought out on a stretcher.
“About 30 minutes later, another male comes out on a stretcher and it looks like he has blood all over him,” he said.
Young did not hold back when describing his feelings about the incident.
“If you’re out in the world and you are blasting guns with old ladies and kids and women around, you’re a piece of s*** coward,” Young said.
