HOUSTON – The funeral for 10-month-old baby Nick Torres has been set for this upcoming week, according to the Facebook page. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at the Compean Funeral Home at 2102 Broadway Street in Houston. Following the memorial, the child will be laid to rest at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in southeast Houston. The hospital pushed to take the child off life support after they ruled the child brain dead on September 30. However, the family filed several appeals to keep the child on life support because his heart was still beating.

HOUSTON – After a long legal battle to keep him on life support, 10-month-old Nick Torres died at home Tuesday after being released from the hospital to his family. Dr. Joseph Varon, of United Memorial Medical Center, said he helped transport Nick from the hospital to his home, where he died a couple of hours later. He said it was a very emotional moment for not only Nick’s family but the medical staff who were attending to him. After several appeals to the courts, judges ruled that the hospital could remove Nick from life support. Over the weekend, the family’s attorney said that the hospital had agreed to release Nick into the family’s care.

HOUSTON – Baby Nick is going home to his parents. Last week, 10-month-old Nick Torres was scheduled to be taken off life support by Texas Children’s Hospital. His family has pleaded with the hospital and the courts to keep the child on life support, saying that his heart was still beating. Last night, Texas Children’s authorized to release Baby Nick to his parents. It is not clear when Baby Nick will be leaving the hospital.

HOUSTON – An appeals court ruled Monday in favor of Baby Nick Torres' family, allowing the family to keep him on life support for longer. Baby Nick was rushed to the hospital on September 24 after he was found unresponsive in a bathtub. A judge gave Nick’s parents and lawyer, Kevin Acevedo, until 6 p.m. Monday for the court of appeals to review the case and the motion. At 3 p.m. Monday, Acevedo held a press conference and said after they filed emergency appeals, they had not yet heard from the appeals court. HOUSTON – Texas Children’s Hospital is notifying its patients of a data security incident involving one of its vendors, the hospital announced in a release Monday. Blackbaud said it has no reason to believe the attackers have another copy of the hospital’s database or released the data publicly. As soon as Texas Children’s Hospital was notified, they mailed its patients who were affected by the security incident. Texas Children’s investigation determined that certain free text fields in the database may have contained certain patients' names, dates of birth, department(s) of service, treating physician, and/or limited clinical information. Importantly, no patients' Social Security Numbers or financial records were involved in this incident," according to a release by the hospital.

At the time it was built, it was the first pediatric SIU or Biocontainment Unit in the country. What sets this unit apart is that it is specifically designed to care for individuals with highly-contagious diseases, such as COVID-19.
